Abstract
Autostereoscopic systems permitting various degrees of free movement of a viewer are provided. Some embodiments incorporate both a light-controlling module which provides for autostereoscopic viewing, and a lenticular array distinct from that module, which enhances movement permissiveness of the system. Some embodiments provide an eye-position detector and means to aim light of left and right stereoscopic images appropriately towards a viewer's left and right eyes respectively.
Claims26
An autostereoscopic display system which comprises
- a) a display having a plurality of elements each of which displays at first times a portion of a left image and at second times a portion of a right image, said left and right images together comprising a stereoscopic image pair;
- b) a light-controlling module which directs light from each of said elements towards a left eye viewing zone when said each element displays a portion of said left image and which directs light from said same element towards a right eye viewing zone when said element displays a portion of said right image, said module being positioned between said display and a viewer and closer to said display than to said viewer;
- and
- c) a lenticular array distinct from said light-controlling module which serves to broaden said viewing zones by magnifying views of each of said elements when said elements are viewed from within said viewing zones.

- (b) a color filter layer positioned between a viewer and said display, said filter layer comprising first and second segments alternatingly positioned across said layer, said first segments of said layer passing said first set of colors and blocking said second set of colors and said second segments passing said second set of colors and blocking said first set of colors.
