Abstract
There is described a structural material comprising a substrate and a binder characterised in that the binder comprises a bio-silicate and a process for the manufacture thereof.
Claims25
A structural material comprising a substrate and a binder characterised in that the binder comprises an alkali metal bio-silicate.
(canceled)
A process for the manufacture of a structural material comprising a substrate and a bio-silicate binder which comprises the steps of:
- combustion of a biomass material to produce an ash;
- synthesis of a bio-silicate binder from the ash;
- mixing the bio-silicate with an optionally pre-treated substrate material;
- forming the structural material into a desired shape;
- and
- curing the material.
20-21. (canceled)
A process according to claim 20 wherein the pre-treatment comprises extraction of oils and/or waxes.
23-24. (canceled)
A structural particulate material, fibre board or panel comprising a biomass substrate and a binder characterised in that the binder comprises an alkali metal bio-silicate.
A material comprising an alkali metal bio-silicate which comprises a SiO2:M2O ratio of 2 or less.
