Abstract
Various aspects of the present system provide methods and systems for tracing internet actions to a remote computer and to an individual who operates the computer. One aspect provides a technique to generate fingerprint of computer and its user based on the information collected through the actions a user conducts on internet. Another aspect of the system provides a technique to compute the fingerprints and find relations between users and computers. Another aspect of the system provides a trust ranking to a user based on the consistency of information collected from the user's various actions.
Claims20
A method to identify an individual's identity operating a remote computer on the Internet, comprising:
- a. establishing parameters associated with Internet users in a database;
- b. generating fingerprints from the parameters to identify related or unrelated individuals;
- c. generating a trust ranking by cross checking and authenticating the parameters, wherein each parameter is assigned a different weight in computing a relationship approximation of two identities;
- and
- d. assigning the trust ranking to each identity.
A system for identifying one or more on line identities, comprising
- a. a parameter database to store parameters associated with Internet users;
- b. a fingerprint index coupled to the parameter database to identify related or unrelated individuals;
- and
- c. a user identification database containing trust rankings generated by cross checking and authenticating the parameters, wherein each parameter is assigned a different weight in computing a relationship approximation of two identities;
- and wherein the trust ranking is assigned to each identity.
