Abstract
A method and system for supporting multiple displays in a virtual machine (VM) environment are disclosed. The system includes a client device coupled to a server hosting one or more VMs. The client device may include multiple displays and a client display manager coupled to the displays. The client display manager may be operable to establish display connections with virtual devices of a VM, receive data generated by the VM via the display connections, and forward the data to a display controller of a relevant display.
Claims26
A computer system comprising:
- a processor;
- a memory coupled to the processor;
- a virtual machine (VM) executable from the memory;
- a plurality of virtual devices enabled on the VM, each of the plurality of virtual devices being associated with one or more of a plurality of displays that render data generated by the VM;
- and
- a display system, coupled to the VM, to cause a display connection to be established for each of the plurality of virtual devices.
A client device comprising:
- a plurality of displays;
- and
- a client display manager, coupled to the plurality of displays, to:
- establish display connections with a plurality of virtual devices of a virtual machine (VM) hosted by a server coupled to the client device via a network;
- receive data generated by the VM via the display connections;
- and
- forward the data to a display controller of a relevant display.
A computer-implemented method for a client, comprising:
- establishing, by the client, display connections for a plurality of virtual devices of a virtual machine residing on a host coupled to the client via a network, the client having a plurality of displays;
- upon receiving data during an active display connection, determining, by the client, at least one display associated with the received data;
- and
- providing the received data to a display controller of the determined display.
A computer-implemented method for a host computer, comprising:
- establishing, by the host computer, display connections for a plurality of virtual devices of a virtual machine residing on the host computer, the host computer having a plurality of displays;
- upon receiving data during an active display connection, determining, by the host computer, at least one display associated with the received data;
- and
- providing the received data to a display controller of the determined display.
A computer-readable storage medium including data that, when accessed by a computer, cause the computer to perform operations comprising:
- establishing display connections for a plurality of virtual devices of a virtual machine residing on the host computer, the virtual devices corresponding to a plurality of displays;
- upon receiving data during an active display connection, determining at least one display associated with the received data;
- and
- providing the received data to a display controller of the determined display.
