Specifying a Parser Using a Properties File

A computer program product for generating a Parser to parse a target file, wherein the computer program product is stored on a computer-readable medium that includes instructions that, when loaded into memory, cause a processor to perform a method, the method comprising:

• receiving a description of the target file, wherein the target file description describes a grammar of the target file by specifying a set of one or more parsers, and wherein each parser specification includes one or more pairs of a name and a value;
• creating a data structure that represents the target file description;
• and
• creating, for each parser in the set of parsers, an object that can parse a string.

A system for generating a Parser to parse a target file, the system comprising:

• a computer-readable medium that includes instructions that, when loaded into memory, cause a processor to perform a method, the method comprising:
• receiving a description of the target file, wherein the target file description describes a grammar of the target file by specifying a set of one or more parsers, and wherein each parser specification includes one or more pairs of a name and a value;
• creating a data structure that represents the target file description;
• and
• creating, for each parser in the set of parsers, an object that can parse a string;
• and
• a processor for performing the method.
