• receiving a command to perform a search of an index database of content of a plurality of files;
• displaying search results in a search window;
• updating, by a data processing system, the search results in the search window automatically and dynamically as new or existing files are created, received, deleted or changed.

A non-transitory machine readable storage medium providing executable instructions which when executed by a system cause the system to perform a method comprising:

• receiving a command to perform a search of metadata of a plurality of files;
• displaying search results in a search window;
• updating the search results in the search window automatically and dynamically as new or existing files are created, received, deleted or changed, and wherein the metadata is from the plurality of files having different file types such that the type of metadata for one file type is different than the type of metadata for another file type.

A non-transitory machine readable storage medium providing executable instructions which when executed by a system cause the system to perform a method comprising:

• receiving a command to perform a search of an index database of content of a plurality of files;
• displaying search results in a search window;
• updating the search results in the search window automatically and dynamically as new or existing files are created, received, deleted or changed.

• means for receiving a command to perform a search of metadata of a plurality of files;
• means for displaying search results in a search window;
• means for updating the search results in the search window automatically and dynamically as new or existing files are created, received, deleted or changed, and wherein the metadata is from the plurality of files having different file types such that the type of metadata for one file type is different than the type of metadata for another file type.

• means for displaying search results in a search window;
