Abstract
Medical devices having special geometrical design features and possible surface modifications and can be comprised of niobium, tantalum, zirconium and/or tungsten alloy which is useful in treating a body passageway.
Claims42
A process for producing a medical device that has design features that can allow for differentiated wall thicknesses across the length of the medical device and geometrical based shapes to enhance the mechanical properties of such device, said process comprising the steps of a) forming a hollow tube that is formed of refractory metal, b) cutting said tube to a desired length, and c) cutting said tube to form said medical device having said design features, said cut tube formed of a plurality of support portions that are connected together by a plurality of legs along a longitudinal length of said tube, said support portions and legs foaming a mesh in a peripherical wall of said cut tube, at least one of said support portions or legs having a varying thickness, said metal including i) an alloy of tantalum and tungsten, ii) niobium, iii) an alloy of niobium and zirconium, or iv) combinations thereof.
A medical device that is formed of refractory metal and having improved expandable properties, said medical device including a cut tube of refractory metal, said cut tube formed of a plurality of support portions that are connected together by a plurality of legs along a longitudinal length of said cut tube, said support portions and legs forming a mesh in a peripherical wall of said cut tube, at least one of said support portions or legs having a varying thickness, said refractory metal including i) an alloy of tantalum and tungsten, ii) niobium, iii) an alloy of niobium and zirconium, or iv) combinations thereof.
