Intradermal Syringe and Needle Assembly

A drug delivery device for use in administering injections by providing access to a medication vial, said medication vial having a piercable closure septum, said septum having a septum thickness dimension, wherein the vial comprises a sealed chamber filled with an injectable substance;

• the device comprising:
• a needle cannula having a lumen and a needle tip;
• a limiter surrounding said needle cannula and having an engaging surface, wherein said limiter is moveable from a first position in which an elongate portion of said needle cannula is exposed a first penetration distance from about 5 mm to about 15 mm from said engaging surface, thereby allowing the needle lumen to access to the chamber of said vial, to a second position in which said limiter is not movable from said second position to said first position and in which said needle tip extends beyond said engaging surface a pre-selected second penetration distance, wherein said second penetration distance is less than said septum thickness dimension;
• and
• a container adapted to contain said substance for injection, said container being in fluid communication with said needle cannula.
