Abstract
Methods for determining a customized location area (CLA) for a subscriber in a cellular network are provided herein. One such method includes the steps of monitoring the cell to which a mobile station registers; storing data corresponding to the cell within a database; determining at least one CLA based upon the data, the CLA each including at least one cell; storing said at least one CLA; utilizing a predictive algorithm to determine which CLA the mobile station is currently located within, if at least two CLAs are stored; and paging each of the cells associated with the appropriate CLA. Other methods are also provided.
Claims6
A method for determining a customized location area (CLA) for a subscriber in a cellular network, the method comprising:
- monitoring a cell to which a mobile station registers;
- storing data corresponding to the cell within a database, the data comprising at least one of a frequency that the mobile station registers with the cell, a time the mobile station registers with the cell, a date the mobile station registers with the cell, and a time duration the mobile station is registered with the cell;
- determining at least one CLA based upon the data, wherein each CLA comprises at least one cell;
- storing each determined CLA;
- determining, using a predictive algorithm, within which CLA of the determined CLAs the mobile station is currently located;
- and
- paging each of the cells associated with the CLA in which the mobile station is located as determined using the predictive algorithm.
A non-transitory, computer-readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions which, when executed, perform the steps of:
- monitoring a cell to which a mobile station registers;
- storing data corresponding to the cell within a database, the data comprising at least one of a frequency that the mobile station registers with the cell, a time the mobile station registers with the cell, a date the mobile station registers with the cell, and a time duration the mobile station is registered with the cell;
- determining at least one customized location area (CLA) based upon the data, each CLA comprising at least one cell;
- storing each CLA;
- determining, using a predictive algorithm, within which CLA of the determined CLAs the mobile station is currently located;
- and
- paging each of the cells associated with the CLA in which the mobile station is located as determined using the predictive algorithm.
A customized location area (CLA) system, comprising:
- a communication component configured to facilitate communication between the CLA system and a plurality of cells in a cellular network;
- a processor in communication with the communication component;
- a memory in communication with the processor, the memory comprising instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
- monitor a cell to which a mobile station registers;
- store data corresponding to the cell within a database, the data comprising at least one of a frequency that the mobile station registers with the cell, a time the mobile station registers with the cell, a date the mobile station registers with the cell, and a time duration the mobile station is registered with the cell;
- determine at least one CLA based upon the data, each CLA comprising at least one cell;
- store each CLA;
- determine, using a predictive algorithm, within which CLA of the determined CLAs the mobile station is currently located;
- and
- page each of the cells associated with the CLA in which the mobile station is located as determined using the predictive algorithm.
