Abstract
Disclosed herein is an adhesive release article comprising an absorbent substrate, a cross-linking agent, and a polymer; wherein the substrate is first coated with the cross-linking agent and is then coated with the polymer.
Claims28
A method of reducing adhesion of an adhesive to at least a portion of an absorbent substrate, comprising:
- contacting the absorbent substrate with a cross-linking agent and then contacting a cross-linking agent-contacted portion of the absorbent substrate with a polymer that is cross-linked by the cross-linking agent, to form an adhesion-resistant portion of the absorbent substrate;
- and contacting the adhesive with the adhesion-resistant portion of the absorbent substrate.
A laminate comprising:
- a first layer comprising a release substrate having an adhesion-resistant portion formed by contacting at least a portion of an absorbent substrate with a cross-linking agent and then contacting the cross-linking agent-contacted portion of the absorbent substrate with a polymer that is cross-linked by the cross-linking agent;
- and a second layer comprising an adjacent article having an adhesive in contact with the adhesion-resistant portion of the release substrate.
A sheet material comprising an absorbent substrate that has a portion of a first major surface coated with an adhesion-resistant coating formed by contacting at least a portion of the first major surface with a cross-linking agent then contacting the cross-linking agent-contacted portion with a polymer;
- and at least a portion of a second major surface coated with an adhesive.
A method of manufacturing an adhesion-resistant substrate, that has an integral adhesion-resistant coating on at least a portion of a surface thereof, comprising:
- contacting at least a portion of an absorbent substrate with a cross-linking agent and drying the substrate to a liquid content less than about 20% by weight, and then contacting at least a portion of the cross-linking agent-contacted absorbent substrate with a polymer, and drying the absorbent substrate to a liquid content of less than about 20% by weight;
- wherein the polymer is cross-linked by the cross-linking agent to form an adhesion-resistant coating on the absorbent substrate.
A method of providing grease resistance and/or release properties to a substrate comprising:
- combining the substrate and a cross-linking agent, and then drying the substrate to a liquid content less than about 20% by weight, and then
- treating the substrate with a solution of a polymer, and then drying the substrate at a temperature less than about 212° F. to a liquid content of less than about 20% by weight;
- wherein the cross-linking agent cross-links the polymer after the substrate has been treated with the polymer to form a grease-resistant coating on the substrate.
A method of manufacturing an environmentally safe, grease resistant article that comprises:
- an absorbent substrate, a polymer;
- and a cross-linking agent for the polymer;
- comprising:
- admixing a water soluble cross-linking agent and fibers used to form an absorbent substrate;
- forming the absorbent substrate from the fibers;
- treating the substrate with a water soluble polymer capable of being cross-linked by said cross-linking agent to achieve cross-linking agent/polymer contact sufficient to cross-link said polymer in and on at least a portion of said fibers, and
- drying the substrate to a liquid content of less than about 20% by weight, at a temperature less than about 212° F.
