Abstract
The invention is directed to solid gradient scaffolds, methods of producing the same, and therapeutic applications arising from their utilization. Specifically, the gradient scaffolding includes, inter-alia, surface folds of various configuration for increasing surface area to volume of the scaffold.
Claims41
A solid, biocompatible scaffold for implantation, comprising surface folds, wherein said surface folds increase said scaffold surface area to volume ratio (SA/V), by at least 20%.
A process for preparing a solid scaffold comprising surface folds, the process comprising the steps of:
- a. applying a polymeric suspension to a mold comprised of a conductive material, wherein a surface of said mold which is in contact with said suspension has numerous folds;
- and
- b. subjecting the suspension-filled mold in (a) to conditions whereby said suspension is solidified.
