Abstract
A receiver contains a phase demodulator and an electronic dispersion compensator that is electrically connected to the phase demodulator. The phase demodulator contains a delay that is equal to or less than 1 bit. Ideally the delay is an adjustable delay. Further, a method for operating the receiver described above is discussed.

A receiver, comprising:
- a phase demodulator having a delay that is less than 1 bit;
- and
- an electronic dispersion compensator connected to said phase demodulator.
An optical network, comprising:
- a receiver containing a phase demodulator having a delay that is less than 1 bit, and an electronic dispersion compensator connected to said phase demodulator.
A method for operating a receiver configuration, which comprises the steps of:
- providing a receiver containing a phase demodulator having a delay that is less than 1 bit, and an electronic dispersion compensator connected to the phase demodulator;
- and
- operating the receiver.
