Abstract
A method for forming an image on media is provided which includes controlling an imaging head to emit radiation beams to form the image while scanning over the media along a scan direction. The image can include a feature that has an edge portion that extends in a direction that is skewed by a skew angle with respect to the scan direction. Each radiation beam can be controllable to vary a size of a pixel formed on the media by the radiation beam. Each pixel has a first size along a first direction and a second size along a second direction that intersects the first direction. In one embodiment, the second size is different than the first size and is determined based at least on the skew angle and the first size.

A method for forming an image on media, comprising:
- controlling an imaging head to emit radiation beams to form the image while scanning over the media along a scan direction, wherein the image comprises a feature that includes an edge portion that extends in a direction that is skewed by a skew angle with respect to the scan direction, and wherein each radiation beam is controllable to vary a size of a pixel formed on the media by the radiation beam;
- determining at least one size of each pixel of a plurality of pixels to be formed on the media, each pixel having a first size along a first direction and a second size along a second direction that intersects the first direction, wherein the second size is different than the first size and is determined based at least on the skew angle and the first size;
- and
- controlling the imaging head to emit a group of the radiation beams to form a staircase arrangement of the plurality of pixels along the edge portion of the feature, wherein each radiation beam of the group of the radiation beams is controlled to form each of the pixels of the stair-case arrangement with the first size and the determined second size.
A method for forming an image on media with radiation beams emitted by an imaging head while scanning over the media along a scan direction, wherein the image comprises a pattern of features that are regularly arranged along a first direction and includes a feature with an edge portion that extends in a direction that is skewed by a skew angle with respect to the scan direction;
- the method comprising:
- determining a pitch of the features along the first direction;
- determining a first dimension of a pixel to be formed on the media based at least on the pitch of the features along the first direction;
- determining a second dimension of the pixel to be formed on the media based at least on the skew angle;
- controlling the imaging head to emit the radiation beams to form the pattern of features on the media while scanning over the media along the scan direction;
- and
- controlling the imaging head to emit a radiation beam to form the pixel on the media with the determined first dimension and the determined second dimension.
A method for forming an image on a media, comprising:
- controlling an imaging head to emit independently-controllable radiation beams to form the image while scanning over the media along a scan direction, wherein the image comprises a feature that includes an edge portion that extends a first distance along a direction that is skewed with respect to the scan direction such that the first distance extends by a run distance along a cross-scan direction for a rise distance along the scan direction, wherein the cross-scan direction is perpendicular to the scan direction and the run distance is different in length than the rise distance;
- controlling the imaging head to form a first group of one or more pixels while scanning over the media, each pixel of the first group of one more pixels comprising a first size along a first direction;
- and
- controlling the imaging head to form a second group of one or more pixels while scanning over the media, each pixel of the second group of one or more pixels comprising a second size along a second direction that is perpendicular to the first direction, wherein the run distance is equal to an integer multiple of the first size and the rise distance is equal to an integer multiple of the second size.
A program product carrying a set of computer-readable signals comprising instructions which, when executed by a controller, cause the controller to:
- control an imaging head to emit radiation beams to form an image while scanning over media along a scan direction, wherein the image comprises a feature that includes an edge portion that extends in a direction that is skewed by a skew angle with respect to the scan direction, and wherein each radiation beam is controllable to vary a size of a pixel formed on the media by the radiation beam;
- determine at least one size of each pixel of a plurality of pixels to be formed on the media, each pixel having a first size along a first direction and a second size along a second direction that intersects the first direction, wherein the second size is different than the first size and is determined based at least on the skew angle and the first size;
- and
- control the imaging head to emit a group of the radiation beams to form a stair-case arrangement of the plurality of pixels along the edge portion of the feature, wherein each radiation beam of the group of the radiation beams is controlled to form each of the pixels of the stair-case arrangement with the first size and the determined second size.

- determine a first dimension of a pixel to be formed on the media based at least on the pitch of the features along the first direction;
- determine a second dimension of the pixel to be formed on the media based at least on the skew angle;
- and
- control the imaging head to emit a radiation beam to form the pixel on the media with the determined first dimension and the determined second dimension.
A program product carrying a set of computer-readable signals comprising instructions which, when executed by a controller, cause the controller to:
