Abstract
Systems and methods for providing distinctive vibration alerts are described herein. In different aspects, the methods may include sensing an event and determining a corresponding vibration definition for the event based on one or more properties of the event. The methods also include providing the corresponding vibration definition. The methods then further include producing mechanical vibrations of the device based on the vibration definition.
Claims20
A wireless communication device for providing distinctive vibrating alerts, the wireless communication device comprising:
- a controller;
- a vibration element coupled to the controller, the vibration element for generating mechanical vibrations;
- and
- a data storage medium, the data storage medium containing a vibration definitions database and a configuration file database,
- wherein the configuration file database contains a configuration file which determines a distinct mechanical vibration to be applied to an event and the controller signals the vibration element to generate the distinct mechanical vibration in response to the event, the distinct mechanical vibration selected from a plurality of vibration definitions within the vibration definitions database.
A system for providing distinctive vibrating alerts, the system comprising:
- a network;
- a wireless communication device on the network;
- a remote data storage medium on the network, the remote data storage medium containing a vibration definitions database and a configuration file database, the configuration file database containing a configuration file defining a vibration definition from the vibration definitions database that a controller of the wireless communication device uses to produce a distinct mechanical vibration, the remote data storage medium sending the vibration definition to the wireless communication device where the wireless communication device generates a distinct mechanical vibration according to the vibration definition;
- and
- a remote definition source on the network to supply the vibration definitions database with the vibration definition.
A method for providing distinctive vibrating alerts, the method comprising:
- sensing an event at a controller of a device;
- assigning a vibration definition to the event based on a plurality of properties of the event;
- providing the vibration definition to the controller;
- and
- activating a vibrating element based on the vibration definition to produce a distinct mechanical vibration.
