Abstract
The present invention is a vitrification and gasification system that operates at elevated pressures. The system includes a processing chamber having numerous penetrations, and seals for effectively sealing the penetrations to the processing chamber.
Claims18
1) A method for converting organic compounds to useful gas products comprising the steps of:
- a. providing a processing chamber having at least one port,
- b. providing at least one electrode penetrating the processing chamber through said port,
- c. introducing organic material and oxygen to the processing chamber,
- d. maintaining the processing chamber at a pressure of at least 2 atmospheres,
- e. providing electrical energy to said electrode to induce reactions between the organic material and the oxygen to form synthesis gas,
- f. providing a seal to prevent pressure from inside the processing chamber from expelling organic material, oxygen or synthesis gas from the processing chamber through the port.
4) A gas product manufacturing system comprising:
- a. a processing chamber having at least one port,
- b. at least one electrode penetrating the processing chamber through said port,
- c. a seal preventing pressure from inside the processing chamber from expelling material from within the processing chamber through the port.
7) A method for converting organic compounds to useful gas products comprising the steps of:
- a. providing a processing chamber having a set of joule heating ports and a set of plasma heating ports,
- b. providing a set of joule heating electrodes, each of the joule heating electrodes penetrating the processing chamber through each of the joule heating ports,
- c. providing a set of plasma heating electrodes, each of the plasma heating electrodes penetrating the processing chamber through each of the plasma heating ports,
- d. introducing organic material and oxygen to the processing chamber,
- e. maintaining the processing chamber at a pressure of at least 2 atmospheres,
- f. providing electrical energy to the joule heating electrodes sufficient to form and maintain a molten glass bath within the processing chamber,
- g. providing electrical energy to the plasma heating electrodes sufficient to form a plasma and to induce reactions between the organic material and the oxygen exposed to the plasma to form synthesis gas,
- h. providing a seal to prevent pressure from inside the processing chamber from expelling organic material, oxygen or synthesis gas from the processing chamber through the port.
10) A gas products manufacturing system comprising:
- a. a processing chamber having a set of joule heating ports and a set of plasma heating ports,
- b. a set of joule heating electrodes, each of the joule heating electrodes penetrating the processing chamber through each of the joule heating ports,
- c. a set of plasma heating electrodes, each of the plasma heating electrodes penetrating the processing chamber through each of the plasma heating ports,
- d. wherein each of said joule and plasma heating ports includes a seal preventing pressure from inside the processing chamber from expelling material from within the processing chamber through the port.
13) A method for converting organic compounds to useful gas products comprising the steps of:
- a. providing a processing chamber having a material port, an inlet gas port, a glass drain port, a product gas port, a set of joule heating ports, and a set of plasma heating ports,
