Abstract
A method of manufacturing a composite structure by compacting layers of laminate material within a mold and then curing the layers of laminate material within the mold.
Claims19
An apparatus for compacting laminate material, comprising:
- one or more rollers;
- a motor operably coupled top the rollers adapted to rotate the rollers while in contact with the laminate material;
- and
- a controller operably coupled to the motor for monitoring and controlling the operation of the motor.
1 more element
A method of manufacturing a composite structure, comprising:
- positioning one or more layers of laminate material within a mold;
- compacting at least one preselected region of the laminate material by compacting the preselected region using one or more rollers;
- monitoring the compacting to determine if the compacting is complete;
- compacting until the monitored compacting is complete;
- and
- curing the laminate material within the mold to generate the composite structure.

A method of manufacturing an aircraft, comprising:
- positioning one or more layers of laminate material within a mold;
- compacting at least one preselected region of the laminate material by compacting the preselected region using one or more rollers;
- monitoring the compacting to determine if the compacting is complete;
- compacting until the monitored compacting is complete;
- curing the laminate material within the mold to generate a composite panel;
- and
- coupling the composite panel to a location on the aircraft.
