Abstract
A separation screen has multiple discs configured to receive a material stream at an in-feed end and move a first group of materials from the material stream up an inclined angle and over a top out-feed end of the separation screen while a second group of materials from the material steam either fall through openings between the discs while being carried up the separation screen or roll off the in-feed end of the separation screen. A heating system heats an outside surface of the discs so that the discs can separate the first group of materials from the material stream during cold environmental temperatures.
Claims20
A separation system comprising:
- a separation screen having multiple discs configured to receive a material stream at an in-feed end and move a first group of materials from the material stream up an inclined angle and over a top out-feed end of the separation screen while a second group of materials from the material steam either fall through openings between the discs while being carried up the separation screen or roll off the in-feed end of the separation screen;
- and a heating system configured to direct heat toward an outside surface of the discs so that the outside surface of the discs stay warm during cold environmental temperatures.
A method for operating a disc screen, comprising:
- arranging discs in the disc screen to form openings;
- dropping a material stream onto the disc screen while rotating the discs;
- and
- directing heat toward the discs during relatively cold environmental conditions so the discs can move a first portion of the material stream from a bottom end of the disc screen up over a top end of the disc screen, wherein the first portion of the material separation stream includes fiber materials that have a relatively thin and flat shape.
The method according to 10 wherein the material stream comprises Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) typically obtained from residential and business trash containers and bins and the relatively thin and flat recyclable items include paper and cardboard, wherein the heated discs are configured to carry a substantial portion of the paper and cardboard up over the top end of the separation screen while a substantial portion of more three dimensional plastic and metal containers in the MSW either roll back off the bottom end of the separation screen or drop through the openings between the discs while being carried up the separation screen.
A material processing system, comprising:
- a frame;
- a disc screen including multiple shafts mounted on the frame and multiple discs mounted on the shafts, the discs configured to rotate and carry recyclable materials up over a top end of the conveyer;
- and
- a heating system attached to the frame and configured to direct heat at the discs as the discs carry the recyclable materials up the conveyer.
