Abstract
Task and data management systems methods and apparatus are disclosed. A processor event that requires more memory space than is available in a local storage of a co-processor is divided into two or more segments. Each segment has a segment size that is less than or the same as an amount of memory space available in the local storage. The segments are processed with one or more co-processors to produce two or more corresponding outputs. The two or more outputs are associated into one or more groups. Each group is less than or equal to a target data size associated with a subsequent process.
Claims41
A method for processor task and data management in a system having a main processor and one or more co-processors, comprising the steps of:
- dividing a processor event into two or more segments, wherein the event requires more memory space than is available in a local storage of one of the co-processors, and wherein each segment has a segment size that is less than or the same as an amount of memory space available in the local storage;
- processing the two or more segments with one or more of the co-processors to produce two or more corresponding outputs;
- and
- associating the two or more outputs into one or more groups, wherein each group is less than or equal to a target data size associated with a subsequent process.
A processor system having a main processor, one or more co-processors and a main memory coupled to the main processor and one or more co-processors, wherein each co-processor includes a processing unit and a local store, the main memory having embodied therein data and/or code representing an event that requires more memory space than is available in the local storage of a co-processor, the processor system being configured to execute processor readable instructions for implementing a task and data management method, the method comprising the steps of:
- dividing a processor event into two or more segments, wherein each segment has a segment size that is less than or the same as an amount of memory space available in the local store;
- processing the two or more segments with one or more of the co-processors to produce two or more corresponding outputs;
- and
- associating the two or more outputs into one or more groups, wherein each group is less than or equal to a target data size associated with a subsequent process.
A processor system, comprising:
- a main memory;
- a main processor coupled to the main memory;
- one or more co-processors coupled to the main memory, wherein each co-processor includes a processing unit and a local store;
- an output processor coupled to the cell processor such that the output processor can process output produced by the cell processor;
- and
- a set of processor readable instructions in the main memory and/or local store of one or more of the co-processors, the instructions being configured implement a task and data management method, the method comprising the steps of:
- dividing a processor event into two or more segments, wherein each segment has a segment size that is less than or the same as an amount of memory space available in the local store;
- processing the two or more segments with one or more of the co-processors to produce two or more corresponding outputs;
- transferring the two or more corresponding outputs to the output processor;
- processing the two or more corresponding outputs with the output processor;
- and
- associating the two or more outputs into one or more groups, wherein each group is less than or equal to a target data size associated with a subsequent process.
A processor readable medium having embodied therein a set of processor readable instructions for implementing a processor task and data management method, the method comprising:
- dividing a processor event into two or more segments, wherein the event requires more memory space than is available in a local storage of a co-processor, and wherein each segment has a segment size that is less than or the same as an amount of memory space available in the local storage;
- processing the two or more segments with one or more SPE of the cell processor to produce two or more corresponding outputs;
- and
- associating the two or more outputs into one or more groups, wherein each group is less than or equal to a target data size associated with a subsequent process.
A processor task and data management apparatus, comprising:
- means for dividing a processor event into two or more segments, wherein the event requires more memory space than is available in a local storage of a co-processor, and wherein each segment has a segment size that is less than or the same as an amount of memory space available in the local storage;
- means for processing the two or more segments with one or more co-processors to produce two or more corresponding outputs;
- and
- means for associating the two or more outputs into one or more groups, wherein each group is less than or equal to a target data size associated with a subsequent process.
