Method and apparatus for retransmission management for reliable hybrid arq process

A method of confirming transmission of a packet in wireless communications, the method comprising:

• receiving a packet;
• transmitting an indication that the packet was successfully received;
• and
• determining whether a transmission sequence number (TSN) of the packet is a next expected TSN, whether the TSN of the packet is less than the next expected TSN, or whether a timer has been set.

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:

• circuitry configured to start a timer;
• circuitry configured to build a packet;
• circuitry configured to transmit the packet;
• circuitry configured to receive an indication that the packet was not successfully transmitted;
• and
• circuitry configured to determine whether or not to perform a retransmission management (RM) procedure on a condition that a number of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) transmissions exceeds a maximum number of retransmissions and the timer has not expired.

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising:

• circuitry configured to receive a packet;
• circuitry configured to transmit an indication that the packet was successfully received;
• and
• circuitry configured to determine whether a transmission sequence number (TSN) of the packet is a next expected TSN, whether the TSN of the packet is less than the next expected TSN, or whether a timer has been set.
