Abstract
A universal gripping surface is provided on an intravenous catheter assembly. The universal gripping surface provides a plurality of surfaces whereby a user may grip the catheter assembly in a desired gripping configuration for improved balance and control of the catheter assembly during insertion of the catheter. Additionally, the universal gripping surface includes a guard feature to prevent a user's unintended contact with various components of the catheter assembly whereby the contact may result in an undesirable “over the bevel” condition.
Claims13
1-15. (canceled)
An intravenous catheter device, comprising:
- a catheter adapter having a first end and a second end, the first end supporting a catheter;
- and
- a needle hub having a first end, a second end, and a middle portion, the first end being removably coupled to the second end of the catheter adapter, the middle portion including a gripping surface for accommodating opposing digits to enable a straight grip of the catheter device, the middle portion further including an outwardly protruded guard feature interposed between the gripping surface and the catheter adapter, the guard feature providing a barrier between a portion of the gripping surface and the catheter adapter, and the second end including an end surface and a fixedly attached needle extending outwardly therefrom such that the needle intersects, aligns, and coordinates the needle hub, the catheter adapter, and the catheter to provide an integrated catheter device.
