Abstract
Water-insoluble cellulose derivatives such as ethyl cellulose can be used to treat or prevent metabolic syndrome and/or one of the abnormalities of metabolic syndrome.

A method of preventing or treating metabolic syndrome or a symptom or condition associated with the metabolic syndrome in an individual comprising the step of administering to the individual an effective amount of a water-insoluble cellulose derivative.
