An improved method for administering a therapeutically effective amount of gabapentin to a subject in need thereof, the improvement comprising administering gabapentin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, in a gastric retained dosage form, wherein the subject is being treated for movement disorders, psychiatric disorders, or wherein the subject is receiving prophylactic treatment for migraine headaches.
