Method and system for inspection of containers

An inspection system for detecting at least one object of interest within a container, said inspection system comprising a processor configured to:

• receive three-dimensional volumetric scan data from a scan of the container;
• reconstruct a three-dimensional representation of the container from the three-dimensional volumetric scan data;
• inspect the three-dimensional representation to detect the at least one object of interest within the container;
• re-project a two-dimensional image from one of the 3-D volumetric scan data and the three-dimensional representation;
• identify a first plurality of image elements in the two-dimensional image corresponding to a location of the at least one object of interest;
• and
• output the two-dimensional image with the first plurality of image elements highlighted.

A computer program embodied on a computer-readable medium, said computer program comprising a code segment that configures a processor to:

• receive three-dimensional volumetric scan data from a scan of the container;
• reconstruct a three-dimensional representation of the container from the three-dimensional volumetric scan data;
• inspect the three-dimensional representation to detect the at least one object of interest within the container;
• re-project a two-dimensional image from one of the three-dimensional volumetric scan data and the three-dimensional representation;
• identify a first plurality of image elements in the two-dimensional image corresponding to a location of the at least one object of interest;
• and
• output the two-dimensional image with the first plurality of image elements highlighted.
