Abstract
A method and system for establishing and maintaining a high speed tunnel between a mobile device and a network, the method determining whether a foreground application on the mobile device requires the high speed tunnel, and if the foreground application requires the high speed tunnel, closing all tunnels from the mobile device to a network except the tunnel for the foreground application.

A method for establishing and maintaining a high speed tunnel between a mobile device and a network, the method comprising:
- determining whether a foreground application on the mobile device requires the high speed tunnel, and
- if the foreground application requires the high speed tunnel, closing all tunnels from the mobile device to a network except the tunnel for the foreground application.
A mobile device configured to establish and maintain a high speed tunnel is open to a network, the mobile device comprising:
- a communications subsystem;
- and
- a processor, the processor configured to determine whether a foreground application on the mobile device requires the high speed tunnel, and if the foreground application requires the high speed tunnel, close all tunnels using the communications subsystem from the mobile device to a network except the tunnel for the high speed radio access bearer.
