User-controlled network configuration for handling multiple classes of service

A method for configuring an Internet-protocol (IP) network, comprising:

• generating a network configuration based on a first user input, wherein said generating the network configuration further comprises:
• building a network classification profile (NCP) for prioritizing network packets sent to the network, wherein the NCP defines a plurality of classes of service (COSs), and wherein at least one of the COSs is defined according to a packet parameter;
• building a queuing profile for scheduling network packets received from the network based on the NCP, wherein the received network packets are scheduled according to the NCP;
• and
• notifying a network service provider of the network configuration;
• and
• implementing the network configuration on the network, wherein packet prioritization on the network complies with the NCP,
• wherein said first user input is received by a user-operated network configuration system.
