Abstract
Multiple Modeling, wherein the wavefield is separated into up/down wavefield on either source-side or receiver-side; wherein WEMM is used to extrapolate and predict multiples, which are attenuated from OBC seismic data.

A method for attenuating multiple reflections in ocean bottom cable seismic data using Wavefield Extrapolation Multiples Modeling (WEMM) in geophysics exploration, comprising:
- (a) separating source-side wavefield into source-side up-going and down-coming wavefield and discarding up-going wavefield;
- (b) separating receiver-side wavefield into receiver-side up-going and down-coming wavefield;
- (c) muting direct arrival in receiver-side down-going wavefield;
- (d) extrapolating receiver-side down-going wavefield for a round trip through the subsurface to form a prediction of multiples using WEMM;
- and
- (e) adaptively subtracting the prediction of multiples in step (d) from receiver-side up-going wavefield in step (b) resulting with the primary remaining.
A method for attenuating multiple reflections in ocean bottom cable seismic data using Wavefield Extrapolation Multiples Modeling in geophysics exploration, comprising:
- (a) separating receiver-side wavefield into receiver-side up-going and down-coming wavefield, and discarding receiver-side down-coming wavefield;
- (b) separating the receiver-side up-going wavefield into source-side up-going and down-coming wavefield;
- (c) extrapolating source-side up-going wavefield for a round trip on the source side using WEMM;
- and
- (d) adaptively subtracting the extrapolated source-side up-doing wavefield in step (c) from source-side down-coming wavefield in step (b) resulting only the primary remaining.
A computer-readable medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions for processing OBC seismic data for geophysics exploration, where the instructions, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to:
- (a) separate source-side wavefield into source-side up-going and down-coming wavefield and discarding up-going wavefield;
- (b) separate receiver-side wavefield into receiver-side up-going and down-coming wavefield;
- (c) mute direct arrival in receiver-side down-going wavefield;
- (d) extrapolate receiver-side down-going wavefield for a round trip through subsurface to form a prediction of multiples using WEMM;
- and
- (e) adaptively subtract the prediction of multiples in step (d) from receiver-side up-going wavefield in step (b) resulting with the primary remaining.
A computer data processing system for processing seismic data comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a computer readable medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions for processing OBC seismic data for geophysics exploration, where the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the computer to:
- (a) separate receiver-side wavefield into receiver-side up-going and down-coming wavefield, and discarding receiver-side down-coming wavefield;
- (b) separate the receiver-side up-going wavefield into source-side up-going and down-coming wavefield;
- (c) extrapolate source-side up-going wavefield for a round trip on the source side using WEMM;
- and
- (d) adaptively subtract the extrapolated source-side up-doing wavefield in step (c) from source-side down-coming wavefield in step (b) resulting only the primary remaining.
