Abstract
A substituted pyrene for electroluminescent applications and a method to produce the substituted pyrenes.
Claims18
A composition comprising:
- wherein R1 and R2 are Independently selected from the group consisting of 2-naphthyl, 4-biphenyl, 3-biphenyl and 4-(1-naphthyl)-phenyl.
A composition comprising:
- wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of 2-naphthyl, 4-biphenyl, 3-biphenyl and 4-(1-naphthyl)-phenyl.
An organic electronic device comprising:
- a first electrical contact layer;
- a second electrical contact layer;
- and
- an organic layer comprising a pyrene composition having Formula I, or Formula II, or combination thereof,
- wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of 2-naphthyl, 4-biphenyl, 3-biphenyl and 4-(1-naphthyl)-phenyl.

A method for making a composition, the method comprising:
- brominating hexahydropyrene to produce 4,9-dibromohexahydropyrene;
- reacting 4,9-dibromohexahydropyrene with an arylboronic acid using a Suzuki reaction scheme to produce 4,9-arylhexahydropyrene;
- and
- aromatizing 4,9-arylhexahydropyrene with quinine oxidants to produce 4,9-arylpyrene, wherein the aryl is selected from the group consisting of 2-naphthyl, 4-biphenyl, 3-biphenyl and 4-(1-naphthyl)-phenyl.
