Abstract
A ferromagnetic latching support system for positioning a surface is disclosed. The latching support system includes a mechanical support and a ferromagnetic device.

A ferromagnetic latching support system for positioning a surface, comprising:
- a mechanical support;
- and
- a ferromagnetic device.
A levitation system for positioning a surface, comprising:
- a ferromagnetic latching support system;
- and
- a high-temperature superconductor levitation system.
A method of supporting an object, comprising:
- mechanically supporting the object in a mechanical support position by a mechanical support;
- retracting the mechanical support from the object;
- and
- latching the mechanical support into a latched position by a magnetic flux generated by a ferromagnetic latching support system.
