Abstract
According to one embodiment of the present invention, an electric machine comprises a stator and a rotor. The stator has at least one stator pole with a first leg and a second leg. The rotor has at least one rotor pole. The rotor rotates relate to the stator. The at least one rotor is configured to rotate between the first leg and the second leg of the at least one stator pole.
Claims88
An electric machine, comprising:
- a stator having at least one stator pole, the at least one stator pole including a first leg and a second leg;
- and
- a rotor having at least one rotor pole, wherein
- the rotor rotates relative to the stator, and
- the at least one rotor pole is configured to rotate between the first leg and the second leg of the at least one stator pole.
The electric machine of 24, wherein the rotor is a drum.
The electric machine of 1, wherein
- at least a portion of the first leg is disposed radially inward of the at least one rotor pole and at least a portion of the second leg is disposed radially outward of the at least one rotor pole.
An electric machine, comprising:
- a stator having at least one stator pole;
- a rotor having at least one rotor pole, wherein
- the rotor rotates relative to the stator;
- and
- the rotor and the stator have an angle of interface, allowing a surface of the rotor pole to slide past a surface of the stator pole when the rotor expands.
An electric machine, comprising:
- a stator having more than four stator poles;
- and
- a rotor having more than four rotor poles, wherein
- the rotor rotates relative to the stator;
- and
- the more than four stator poles and the more than four rotor poles are configured such that two sets of the more than four stator poles may be electrically fired at the same time to attract two sets of the more than four rotor poles.
An electric machine, comprising:
- a stator having at least one stator pole, the at least one stator pole including a first leg, a second leg, and a third leg;
- and
- a rotor having at least a first rotor pole and at least a second rotor pole, wherein
- the rotor rotates relative to the stator;
- and
- the at least a first rotor pole is configured to rotates between the first leg and the second leg, and
- the at least a second rotor pole is configured to rotate between the second leg and the third leg.
An electric machine, comprising:
- a stator having at least one stator pole, the at least one stator pole including a first leg and a second leg;
- and
- a rotor having a periphery, at least a first rotor pole and at least a second rotor pole, wherein
- the rotor rotates relative to the stator, and
- the at least one rotor and the at least one stator are configured such that a magnetic flux flows from the first leg through the at least a first rotor pole to the periphery and from the periphery through the at least a second rotor pole to the second leg.
An electric machine, comprising:
- a stator having at least one stator pole;
- a rotor having at least one rotor pole, wherein
- the rotor rotates relative to the stator;
- and
- at least one of the at least one rotor pole or the at least one stator pole is made of a easily saturated material or flux barrier.
