Abstract
A fishing spool dispenser for the easy manipulation and severance of a fishing line. A first flange contains a radially expanding, angled guide slot to secure the free end of the fishing line. A radially inward extending holding clip is disposed along the outer edge of the first flange opposite the supply of fishing line. A cutting slot is formed on the second flange, generally opposite the guide slot, and contains a cutting surface to sever the line. The invention also includes a method of using the dispensing arrangement, running a portion of fishing line from the supply, through the guide slot, under the holding clip and then back to the cutting slot to be cut against a cutting surface within the cutting slot.
Claims17
A dispensing spool adapted to hold at least one convolution of fishing line, said spool comprising:
- a) a drum;
- b) a first flange, radially extending from said drum, said first flange having an outer surface and a circumferential edge;
- c) a second flange, opposing said first flange, said second flange having a circumferential edge and an arc;
- d) one or more windings of an elongated material disposed around said drum in a winding direction;
- e) a guide slot formed in said first flange circumferential edge, said guide slot having an opening displaced along the circumferential edge of said first flange;
- f) a cutting slot formed in said second flange circumferential edge, directly opposing said guide slot, said cutting slot having a first edge and an opening displaced along the circumferential edge of said second flange, said first edge comprising a cutting surface;
- g) a holding clip disposed along said first flange circumferential edge, said holding clip extending radially inward and defining an opening for receiving the fishing line manually applied thereon;
- h) wherein said holding clip is disposed a predetermined arc length from said guide slot.
(canceled)
A winding spool formed with flanges on the ends thereof, said spool comprising:
- a) a first flange having an interior side and an exterior side;
- b) a second flange having an interior side and an exterior side;
- c) said first flange having a circumferential edge;
- d) said second flange having a circumferential edge and an arc;
- e) a drum disposed between said first flange and said second flange;
- f) one or more convolutions of an elongated material disposed around said drum;
- g) a first slot formed on said first flange circumferential edge, said first slot having a first edge, a second edge, and an opening displaced along the circumferential edge of the first flange, wherein said first edge forms a first angle at said first flange interior side and said first edge, wherein said second edge forms an acute second angle at said first flange interior side and said second edge, wherein said first and second angle orient a generally rhomboidal channel;
- h) a second slot formed on said second flange circumferential edge, said second slot having a first edge, a second edge, and an opening displaced along the circumferential edge of the second flange, wherein at least one of said first and second edges comprises a cutting surface;
- I) a tab disposed along at least one of said first flange and said second flange, said tab defining an opening for receiving the elongated material;
- j) wherein said tab is removed a predetermined arc length from said first slot.
A method of drawing a segment of fishing line from a flanged spool, where the fishing line is wound in a first direction around a spool, comprising the steps of:
- a) drawing a first end of the fishing line off the spool;
- b) placing a portion of the fishing line into a first channel formed in an indentation across a first flange, isolating a free portion of the fishing line;
- c) drawing the free portion around a tab disposed along the first flange, whereby a remainder is isolated;
- d) drawing the remainder towards a second direction into a second channel on a second flange, the second channel including a cutting edge;
- and
- e) severing the remainder at the second channel.
