## Abstract

Bank float is assigned using a dual source bank float system by first determining which of a plurality of checks will be processed via a paper route and which will be processed via an image route. For the checks that will be processed via the paper route, a set of rules will be determined. For the checks that will be processed via the image route, a different set of rules will be determined. A bank float is applied to the paper checks using the paper set of rules and bank float is assigned to the image checks using the image set of rules.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for a dual source bank float, comprising:
providing one or more checks to be processed;
determining which of the one or more checks will be processed via a paper route and which will be processed via an image route;
determining a set of rules to be applied to the image checks;
determining a set of rules to be applied to the paper checks;
assigning a bank float to the image checks using the image set of rules; and
assigning a bank float to the paper checks using the paper set of rules.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1:
wherein the set of rules to be applied to the image checks comprises an image opfile generated by an image opfile builder, and
wherein the set of rules to be applied to the paper checks comprises a paper opfile generated by a paper opfile builder.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein the image opfile builder uses image sort pattern data and business rules to generate the image opfile builder, and wherein the paper opfile builder uses paper sort pattern data and simplified business rules to generate the image opfile builder.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein the simplified business rules are manually inputted.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein determining the set of rules to be applied to the paper checks occurs automatically.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising merging the image bank float and the paper bank file into a single overall float.

### Claim 7 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, further comprising reporting the overall float.

### Claim 8

A computer program product for assigning bank float using a dual source, the computer program product including a computer-readable medium having a computer program residing thereon, the computer program comprising:
instructions for providing one or more checks to be processed;
instructions for determining which of the one or more checks will be processed via a paper route and which will be processed via an image route;
instructions for determining a set of rules to be applied to the image checks;
instructions for determining a set of rules to be applied to the paper checks;
instructions for assigning a bank float to the image checks using the image set of rules; and
instructions for assigning a bank float to the paper checks using the paper set of rules.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The computer program product of claim 8,
wherein the instructions for determining the set of rules to be applied to the image checks comprises instructions for creating an image opfile, and
wherein the instructions for determining the set of rules to be applied to the paper checks comprises instructions for generating a paper opfile.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The computer program product of claim 8, further comprising instructions for merging the image bank float and the paper bank file into a single overall float.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The computer program product of claim 10, wherein the single overall float is used for reporting purposes.

### Claim 12 (depends on 8)

The computer program product of claim 8, wherein the paper set of rules comprises instructions for generating a paper opfile generated by a paper opfile builder and the image set of rules comprises instructions for generating an image opfile generated by an image opfile builder.

### Claim 13

An apparatus comprising:
means for providing one or more checks to be processed;
means for determining which of the one or more checks will be processed via a paper route and which will be processed via an image route;
means for determining a set of rules to be applied to the image checks;
means for determining a set of rules to be applied to the paper checks;
means for assigning a bank float to the image checks using the image set of rules; and
means for assigning a bank float to the paper checks using the paper set of rules.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The apparatus of claim 13,
wherein the means for determining the set of rules to be applied to the image checks comprises means for creating an image opfile, and
wherein the means for determining the set of rules to be applied to the paper checks comprises means for generating a paper opfile.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The apparatus of claim 13, further comprising means for merging the image bank float and the paper bank file into a single overall float.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the paper set of rules comprises means for generating a paper opfile generated by a paper opfile builder and the image set of rules comprises means for generating an image opfile generated by an image opfile builder.

### Claim 17

A system comprising:
a machine that receives one or more checks to be processed, the machine configured to determine which of the one or more checks will be processed via a paper route and which will be processed via an image route; and
a processing unit in communication with the machine, wherein said processing unit is configured to respond to computer instructions to:
determine a set of rules to be applied to the image checks;
determine a set of rules to be applied to the paper checks;
assign a bank float to the image checks using the image set of rules; and
assign a bank float to the paper checks using the paper set of rules.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The system of claim 17, wherein the processing unit is configure to respond to computer instructions to generate an image opfile and separately generate a paper opfile.

### Claim 19 (depends on 17)

The system of claim 17, wherein the processing unit is further configured to merge the image bank float and the paper bank float into a single overall float.

### Claim 20 (depends on 17)

The system of claim 17, wherein the paper set of rules comprises a paper opfile generated by a paper opfile builder and the image set of rules comprises an image opfile generated by an image opfile builder.
