- G01C: MEASURING DISTANCES, LEVELS OR BEARINGS; SURVEYING; NAVIGATION; GYROSCOPIC INSTRUMENTS; PHOTOGRAMMETRY OR VIDEOGRAMMETRY (measuring liquid level G01F; radio navigation, determining distance or velocity by use of propagation effects, e.g. Doppler effects, propagation time, of radio waves, analogous arrangements using other waves G01S)

## Abstract

Route information for a route from a departure location to a destination location is generated. The generated route information is displayed on a first display of a first device. User input based upon the route information displayed on the first display of the first device is received at the first device. Route media is generated at the first device in response to the received user input. The generated route media is different than the route information displayed on the display of the first device. The generated route media is transmitted from the first device to a second device. The second device includes a second display.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
generating route information for a route from a departure location to a destination location;
displaying, on a first display of a first device, the generated route information;
receiving, at the first device, user input based upon the route information displayed on the first display of the first device;
generating route media at the first device in response to the received user input, wherein the generated route media is different than the route information displayed on the display of the first device; and
transmitting the generated route media from the first device to a second device, wherein the second device includes a second display.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 further comprising:
receiving, at the second device, the route media transmitted from the first device; and
displaying, on the second display of the second device, the received route media.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein generating route media includes generating a video pertaining to the route.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3 wherein the video is in an avi, mpeg, or mov video format.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein:
receiving the user input includes receiving a selection of a section of the route; and
generating route media includes generating route media specific to the selected section of the route.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein generating route media includes generating video information that is refreshed dynamically based upon changes in the route.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6 wherein the dynamically refreshed video information includes a larger number of screens for portions of the route with turns than for portions of the route without turns.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving global positioning system information.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8 wherein generating route media includes generating video information based upon the received global positioning system information.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8 further comprising:
receiving, at the second device, the route media transmitted from the first device; and
displaying, on the second display of the second device, the received route media and the received global positioning system information.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the first device is a mobile communication terminal or a telematics terminal.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the second device is a mobile communication terminal or a telematics terminal.

### Claim 13

A system comprising:
a first display unit of a first device;
user input controls of the first device;
a communication module configured to transmit information from a first device to a second device; and
a controller of the first device configured to:
generate route information for a route from a departure location to a destination location,
display the generated route information on the first display,
receive, with the user input controls, user input based upon the route information displayed on the first display,
generate route media in response to the received user input, wherein the generated route media is different than the route information displayed on the first display, and
transmit the generated route media from the first device to a second device with the communication module, wherein the second device includes a second display.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13 wherein a controller of the second device is configured to:
receive, at the second device, the route media transmitted from the first device; and
display, on the second display of the second device, the received route media.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13 wherein, to generate the route media, the controller of the first device is configured to generate a video pertaining to the route.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The system of claim 15 wherein the video is in an avi, mpeg, or mov video format.

### Claim 17 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13 wherein:
to receive the user input, the controller of the first device is configured to receive a selection of a section of the route; and
to generate the route media, the controller of the first device is configured to generate route media specific to the selected section of the route.

### Claim 18 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13 wherein, to generate the route media, the controller of the first device is configured to generate video information that is refreshed dynamically based upon changes in the route.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The system of claim 18 wherein the dynamically refreshed video information includes a larger number of screens for portions of the route with turns than for portions of the route without turns.

### Claim 20 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13 wherein the controller of the first device is configured to receive global positioning system information.

### Claim 21 (depends on 20)

The system of claim 20 wherein, to generate the route media, the controller of the first device is configured to generate video information based upon the received global positioning system information.

### Claim 22 (depends on 20)

The system of claim 20 wherein the controller of the second device is configured to:
receive the route media transmitted from the first device; and
display, on the second display of the second device, the received route media and the global positioning system information.

### Claim 23 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13 wherein the first device is a mobile communication terminal or a telematics terminal.
