Abstract
A quasi-isotropic three-dimensional preform and a method of making thereof are disclosed. The preform includes a plurality of woven elements that are braided with each other. The woven elements have one or more integrally woven stiffeners or walls in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the woven element. The preform may be used in forming a fiber reinforced composite.
Claims28
A quasi-isotropic three-dimensional preform comprising:
- a plurality of woven elements braided with each other, wherein one or more of said woven elements comprises one or more integrally woven stiffeners or walls in a direction perpendicular to the plane of said woven elements.
A fiber reinforced composite comprising a quasi-isotropic three-dimensional preform comprising:
- a plurality of woven elements braided with each other, wherein one or more of said woven elements comprises one or more integrally woven stiffeners or walls in a direction perpendicular to the plane of said woven elements.
A method of forming a quasi-isotropic three-dimensional preform, the method comprising the steps of:
- braiding a plurality of woven elements with each other, wherein one or more of said woven elements comprises one or more integrally woven stiffeners or walls in a direction perpendicular to the plane of said woven elements.
A method of forming a fiber reinforced composite comprising the steps of:
- forming a quasi-isotropic three-dimensional woven preform by braiding a plurality of woven elements with each other, wherein one or more of said woven elements comprises one or more integrally woven stiffeners or walls in a direction perpendicular to the plane of said woven elements;
- and
- impregnating said woven preform in a matrix material.
