## Abstract

The quantity processing is executed to data distributed for each color. Binary data obtained by this quantization processing are selected only in regard to a color generating print quantity information. Filtering processing is executed to the binary data of the selected color to generate the print quantity information. In the quantization processing for a second plane, data found by converting the print quantity information generated in the first plane processing into a minus value are added to the multi-valued data. In the quantization processing in the second plane added, the value of the multi-valued data is made small and in the quantity, probability that the multi-valued data become binary data printing the dots is made small. That is, a ratio where dots in the first plane and dots in the second plane overlap and are formed can be made small.

## Claims

### Claim 1

quantization means for quantizing multi-valued data of each of the plurality of divided images to be made print data of lower gradation value than the multi-valued data;
information generation means for generating print quantity information used for correcting the multi-valued data before the quantization, based on print data obtained by the quantization;
correcting means for correcting the multi-valued data before the quantization by using the print quantity information; and
selection means for selecting the print data from respective print data of the plurality of divided images which is obtained by the quantization, by determining whether to cause said print quantity information generation means to generate the print quantity information based on the print data obtained by the quantization or not.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

An image processing apparatus as claimed in claim 4, wherein said selection means selects the print data of the color having low lightness preferentially.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

An image processing apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said selection means makes the determination based on a use frequency of a color to be printed.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

An image processing apparatus as claimed in claim 6, wherein said selection means selects the print data of the color having high use frequency preferentially.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

An image processing apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said selection means does not select the print data of a color of yellow.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

An image processing apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said selection means does not select the print data of a color of a light color.
