## Abstract

A method for installing the hoisting roping of an elevator, the elevator including at least an elevator car that moves in essentially a vertical direction in the elevator hoistway, a hoisting machine, a traction sheave, and at least a plurality of diverting pulleys includes fitting a plurality of hoisting ropes to pass around a plurality of diverting pulleys as well as the traction sheave, the hoisting ropes, after the installation, forming the hoisting roping of the elevator. Each hoisting rope is guided to pass around each diverting pulley and/or the traction sheave such that a loop is formed from the part between the first and second end of the hoisting rope, the loop being fitted to pass around the diverting pulley and/or the traction sheave.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for installing the hoisting roping of an elevator, the elevator comprising at least an elevator car that moves in essentially a vertical direction in the elevator hoistway, a hoisting machine, a traction sheave, and a plurality of diverting pulleys, said method comprising the steps of:
fitting a plurality of hoisting ropes to pass around the plurality of diverting pulleys and the traction sheave, the plurality of hoisting ropes forming the hoisting roping of the elevator after the installation;
guiding each of the plurality of hoisting ropes to pass around at least some of the diverting pulleys and/or the traction sheave such that a loop is formed from a part between first and second ends of the hoisting rope; and
fitting the loop to pass around the diverting pulley and/or the traction sheave.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, further comprising the step of guiding the loop formed from the hoisting rope to pass around at least a part of the diverting pulleys such that the diverting pulley is opened at a side and the loop is fitted onto the diverting pulley essentially from the side.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, further comprising the step of guiding each of the plurality of hoisting ropes to pass around the traction sheave such that a loop is formed in the hoisting rope, the loop being fitted to pass over the traction sheave.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, further comprising the step of pulling the plurality of hoisting ropes along with the elevator car when the elevator car is moved in the elevator hoistway.

### Claim 5 (depends on 3)

The method according to claim 3, wherein the elevator comprises a counterweight provided with a diverting pulley, said method comprising the step of fitting the loop passed over the traction sheave to pass around the diverting pulley of the counterweight.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
when the elevator car is in a bottom part of the elevator hoistway, fixing the first ends of the hoisting ropes to a temporary fixing point on the elevator car;
opening the diverting pulleys fixed to the bottom part of the elevator at the side, making a loop from each hoisting rope, fitting the loop to pass around the diverting pulleys fixed to the bottom part of the elevator, and closing the diverting pulleys fixed to the bottom part of the elevator at the side;
lifting the elevator car to a top part of the elevator hoistway at the same time as pulling the hoisting ropes along with the elevator car, opening the diverting pulley fixed to the top part of the hoistway at the side, making loops in the hoisting ropes, fitting the loops to pass around the diverting pulley fixed to the top part of the hoistway, and closing the diverting pulley fixed to the top part of the hoistway at the side;
detaching the first ends of the hoisting ropes from the temporary fixing point and fixing the first ends of the hoisting ropes to a final fixing point;
lowering the elevator car to below a diverting pulley fixed to an overhead beam of the elevator hoistway at the same time as pulling the hoisting ropes along with the elevator car, opening the diverting pulley fixed to an overhead beam of the elevator hoistway from the side, making a loop in each hoisting rope, fitting the loop to pass around the diverting pulley fixed to an overhead beam of the elevator hoistway, and closing the diverting pulley fixed to an overhead beam of the elevator hoistway at the side.
moving the elevator car to a height at which it is possible to access the traction sheave from the roof of the elevator car and the counterweight to a height that corresponds to a height when the hoisting roping is in a position where the elevator car has been moved, making a loop in each of the plurality of hoisting ropes, guiding the loop to pass over the traction sheave to the diverting pulley of the counterweight, opening the diverting pulley of the counterweight at the side, fitting each loop to pass around the diverting pulley of the counterweight, and closing the diverting pulley of the counterweight at the side;
fixing each hoisting rope to a second fixing point, and cutting each hoisting rope to a correct dimension.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
guiding the hoisting rope to pass over the traction sheave by guiding the part between the first end and the second end of the hoisting rope over the traction sheave as a loop such that the first end and the second end of the hoisting rope remain on the same side of the traction sheave;
increasing the length of the loop;
guiding the loop to pass around the diverting pulley;
feeding the first end of the hoisting rope over the traction sheave such that the first end and the second end of the hoisting rope are on different sides of the traction sheave; and
fixing the first end of the hoisting rope to the elevator hoistway.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, further comprising the steps of:
reeving the elevator, the elevator comprisings at least a plurality of diverting pulleys, including at least a first diverting pulley and a second diverting pulley;
guiding the hoisting rope to pass around the first diverting pulley such that the second end of the hoisting rope is on a different side of the diverting pulley than a rope reel; and
guiding the hoisting rope to pass from the first diverting pulley to the second diverting pulley, and taking additional rope needed from the rope reel, and guiding a section of rope between the rope reel and the first diverting pulley to pass around the second diverting pulley.
