Abstract
A device, connected to a video display device, may receive a media stream that includes a video signal associated with a video program and program meta-data associated with the video program. The device may parse the media stream to extract the program meta-data, identify a keyword based on the program meta-data, obtain information from a search performed using the keyword, create a snippet of information from the obtained information, and present the snippet and the video program to the video display device, where the snippet and the video program are concurrently presented on the video display device.
Claims21
A device connected to a video display device, comprising:
- an interface to receive a media stream that includes a video signal associated with a video program and program meta-data associated with the video program;
- and
- a processor, connected to the interface, to:
- parse the media stream to extract the program meta-data,
- identify a keyword based on the program meta-data,
- obtain information from a search performed using the keyword,
- create a snippet of information from the obtained information, and
- present the snippet and the video program to the video display device, where the snippet and the video program are concurrently presented on the video display device.
A computer-readable medium that stores instructions executable by a processor, the computer-readable medium comprising:
- one or more instructions to receive a media stream that includes a video signal associated with a video program and program meta-data associated with the video program;
- one or more instructions to parse the media stream to extract the program meta-data;
- one or more instructions to obtain information based on a search performed using a keyword associated with the program meta-data;
- one or more instructions to create a plurality of snippets of information from the obtained information;
- one or more instructions to present one of the plurality snippets and the video program to a video display device;
- and
- one or more instructions to replace the one of the plurality of snippets with another one of the plurality of snippets on the video display device.
A method performed by a first device and a second device, comprising:
- receiving, by the first device, a media stream that includes a video signal associated with a video program and program meta-data associated with the video program;
- parsing, by the first device, the media stream to extract the program meta-data;
- sending, by the first device, information associated with the program meta-data to the second device;
- performing, by the second device and based on the information associated with the program meta-data, a search for trivia questions relating to the program meta-data;
- sending, by the second device, the trivia questions to the first device;
- and
- presenting, by the first device, one of the trivia questions on a video display device.
