Abstract
A computer-readable medium is configured to receive a report processing request at a hierarchical report processor. The hierarchical report processor includes a parent process and at least one child process executing on a single processing unit, and is configured to process the report processing request as a task on the single processing unit.

A computer readable medium comprising executable instructions to:
- define a processing task queue;
- define a request receiver module to:
- receive a first request, and
- place the first request in the processing task queue,
- define a parent process to:
- control management functions of a set of child processes,
- assign tasks to the set of child processes, and
- apply a mark to an identified child process, wherein the mark indicates the identified child process is ineligible for further task assignment.

A method implemented by a computer, comprising:
- receiving a first report processing request;
- placing the first report processing request in a queue;
- assigning the first report processing request to an identified child process of a set of child processes;
- applying a mark to the identified child process, wherein the mark indicates that the identified child process is ineligible for further task assignment;
- retrieving data from a data source through the identified child process;
- formatting the data in accordance with a report schema to form a report;
- and
- supply the report in response to the first report processing request.
