Abstract
In a wireless communications network, a wireless device may examine the received signal to determine the strength of the received signal, and also determine the level of interference and noise. If a retransmission is needed due to a message being incorrectly received, these factors may then be processed to estimate whether the probable cause of poor reception is interference from a neighboring network. If such interference is the likely cause, the retransmission may be changed to a different time and/or to different frequencies in a subsequent frame, so that the interference from the neighboring network is less likely to reoccur.
Claims21
An apparatus, comprising
- a first wireless communications device having a processing platform and signal processing circuitry, the first wireless communications device to process a communication containing a NAK indicator to indicate whether interference from a second wireless communications device in a different network than the base station was a likely cause of errors in an incorrectly received transmission.
An apparatus, comprising:
- a base station comprising a processing platform and signal processing circuitry, the base station to generate a NAK communication to a subscriber station in response to a transmission from the subscriber station that was incorrectly received by the base station;
- wherein the base station is to determine if interference from another device was a likely cause of errors in the incorrectly received transmission, the determination based at least in part on values for a received signal strength indicator (RSSI), interference (I), and noise (N) in the received transmission;
- wherein the base station is to reschedule a retransmission of the incorrectly received transmission resultant to determining that a likely cause of error in the incorrectly received transmission was an interfering signal from a device other than the subscriber station.
A method, comprising:
- processing, in a wireless communications device operating in a wireless communications network, a communication containing information to indicate whether 1) a transmission was correctly received, 2) the transmission was incorrectly received and a cause of error in the received transmission was likely due to interference from another device, or 3) the transmission was incorrectly received and the cause of error in the received transmission was likely not due to interference from said another device.
The method of claim 11, wherein said processing comprises, responsive to the communication indicating the transmission was incorrectly received, processing a NAK indicator containing information about whether the cause of error was likely due to said interference.
An article comprising
- a tangible computer-readable medium that contains instructions, which when executed by one or more processors result in performing operations comprising:
- processing, in a wireless communications device operating in a wireless communications network, a communication containing information to indicate whether 1) a transmission was correctly received, 2) the transmission was incorrectly received and a cause of error in the received transmission was likely due to interference from another device, or 3) the transmission was incorrectly received and the cause of error in the received transmission was likely not due to interference from said another device.
