Abstract
A client computing system includes a processor that receives a domain name and determines if the domain name is in a list of domain names that are associated with a content delivery network (CDN). In response to determining that the first domain name is in the list, the processor directs a domain name system (DNS) request to a CDN DNS server, instead of to the default DNS server.
Claims20
A client computing system having Internet service provided by an Internet Service Provider (ISP), the ISP having a domain name system (DNS) server, the client computing device comprising a processor operable to:
- receive a first domain name;
- determine whether the first domain name is in a list of domain names that are associated with a content delivery network (CDN);
- if the first domain name is not in the list, direct a DNS request to the ISP DNS server;
- and
- if the first domain name is in the list, direct the DNS request to the CDN DNS server.
A method comprising:
- receiving a first domain name;
- determining whether the first domain name is in a list of domain names that are associated with a content delivery network (CDN);
- if the first domain name is not in the list, directing a domain name system (DNS) request to an Internet Service Provider DNS server;
- and
- if the first domain name is in the list, directing the DNS request to a CDN DNS server.
A computing device associated with a content delivery network (CDN) comprising a processor operable to:
- receive a domain name system (DNS) request;
- determine a source Internet Protocol (IP) address of the DNS request:
- in response to determining the source IP address, select a first CDN content server from among a plurality of CDN content servers, wherein the first particular CDN content server is selected for being closer to the source IP address than other CDN content servers;
- in response to selecting the first CDN content server, compose a first file, wherein the first file includes:
- a list of domain names that are associated with the CDN;
- and
- a first CDN content server IP address associated with the first CDN content server;
- and
- send the first file to a client system associated with the source IP address.
A method comprising:
- receiving a domain name system (DNS) request;
- determining a source Internet Protocol (IP) address of the DNS request:
- in response to determining the source IP address, selecting a first CDN content server from among a plurality of CDN content servers, wherein the first CDN content server is selected for being closer to the source IP address than other of CDN content servers;
- in response to selecting the first CDN content server, composing a first file, wherein the first file includes:
- a list of domain names that are associated with the CDN;
- and
- a first CDN content server IP address associated with the first CDN content server;
- and
- sending the first file to a client system associated with the source IP address.
