Abstract
A method and apparatus for inferring if an IP address allocation in a remote network is static or dynamic are disclosed. For example, the method contacts at least one remote peer to peer endpoint using a peer to peer application to obtain an IP address of the at least one remote peer to peer endpoint. The method then analyzes characteristics of the at least one remote peer to peer endpoint over a predefined period of time to infer whether the presence of static IP address allocation exists for the at least one remote peer to peer endpoint.
Claims20
A method for inferring a presence of static Internet Protocol (IP) address allocation, comprising:
- contacting at least one remote peer to peer endpoint using a peer to peer application to obtain an IP address of said at least one remote peer to peer endpoint;
- and
- analyzing characteristics of said at least one remote peer to peer endpoint over a predefined period of time to infer whether said presence of static IP address allocation exists for said at least one remote peer to peer endpoint.
A computer-readable medium having stored thereon a plurality of instructions, the plurality of instructions including instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform the steps of a method for inferring a presence of static Internet Protocol (IP) address allocation, comprising:
- contacting at least one remote peer to peer endpoint using a peer to peer application to obtain an IP address of said at least one remote peer to peer endpoint;
- and
- analyzing characteristics of said at least one remote peer to peer endpoint over a predefined period of time to infer whether said presence of static IP address allocation exists for said at least one remote peer to peer endpoint.
An apparatus for inferring a presence of static Internet Protocol (IP) address allocation, comprising:
- means for contacting at least one remote peer to peer endpoint using a peer to peer application to obtain an IP address of said at least one remote peer to peer endpoint;
- and
- means for analyzing characteristics of said at least one remote peer to peer endpoint over a predefined period of time to infer whether said presence of static IP address allocation exists for said at least one remote peer to peer endpoint.
