Abstract
A biopsy device comprises a targeting set assembly, a probe assembly, and a holster assembly, which are detachable from one another. The targeting set assembly comprises a needle assembly having a tissue piercing tip and tissue receiving aperture. The needle assembly further comprises a needle portion, a needle hub, and a connecting member. The connecting member permits attachment of the needle assembly to the probe assembly. The needle portion may include one or more ceramic inserts, and further is provided with a dual lumen structure. The needle hub comprises features to permit access to the dual lumen structure of the needle portion, while managing fluid and vacuum within the device.
Claims20
A detachable needle assembly for use with a biopsy probe, wherein the detachable needle assembly comprises:
- (a) a needle portion, wherein the needle portion extends longitudinally and comprises:
- (i) a tissue receiving aperture at a distal region of the needle portion,
- (ii) a piercing member at a distal end of the needle portion, wherein the piercing member is operable to penetrate tissue,
- (iii) a first lumen, wherein the first lumen is configured to receive a cutter of the biopsy probe, and
- (iv) a second lumen, wherein the second lumen is configured to fluidly communicate with the first lumen;
- (b) a needle hub at a proximal region of the needle assembly, wherein the needle hub comprises:
- (i) a mounting portion, wherein the mounting portion is configured to couple with a distal end of the biopsy probe,
- (ii) a sleeve, wherein the sleeve is movable longitudinally with respect to the mounting portion,
- (iii) an actuation member, wherein the actuation member is associated with the sleeve and the mounting portion, wherein the actuation member is operable to translate the sleeve;
- and
- (c) a connecting member at a proximal region of the needle assembly, wherein the connecting member is configured to selectively secure the needle assembly to the biopsy probe.
A detachable needle assembly for coupling with a biopsy probe, wherein the detachable needle assembly comprises:
- (a) a needle portion, wherein the needle portion extends longitudinally and comprises:
- (i) a tissue receiving aperture at a distal region of the needle portion, and
- (ii) a blade at a distal end of the needle portion, wherein the blade is operable to penetrate tissue;
- (b) a needle hub at a proximal region of the needle assembly;
- and
- (c) a connecting member at a proximal region of the needle assembly, wherein the connecting member is configured to securably receive:
- (i) the needle hub,
- (ii) a mounting member, wherein the mounting member is associated with a targeting set assembly, and
- (iii) the biopsy probe.
A detachable needle assembly for use with a biopsy probe, wherein the detachable needle assembly comprises:
- (a) a needle portion, wherein the needle portion extends longitudinally and comprises:
- (i) a tissue receiving aperture at a distal region of the needle portion,
- (ii) a piercing member at a distal end of the needle portion, wherein the piercing member is operable to penetrate tissue,
- (iii) a first lumen, wherein the first lumen is configured to receive a cutter of the biopsy probe, and
- (iv) a second lumen, wherein the second lumen is substantially parallel to the first lumen;
- (b) a needle hub at a proximal region of the needle assembly, wherein the needle hub comprises:
- (i) a mounting portion, wherein the mounting portion is configured to couple with a distal end of the biopsy probe, wherein the mounting portion comprises:
- (1) a first opening in a proximal end of the mounting portion, wherein the first opening communicates with the second lumen of the needle portion, and
- (2) a second opening in the proximal end of the mounting portion, wherein the second opening communicates with the first lumen of the needle portion, and
- (ii) a fixed sleeve, wherein the fixed sleeve surrounds the mounting portion, wherein the fixed sleeve is configured to be received within a distal component of the biopsy probe, and
- (c) a connecting member at a proximal region of the needle assembly, wherein the connecting member is configured to secure the needle assembly to the biopsy probe.
