Abstract
Needle guide systems for a sonography device are disclosed. The needle guide systems include both fixed and adjustable and fixed needle guides. In one embodiment, the needle guide includes a needle guide body that is rotatably mounted to a probe of a sonography device. A plurality of needle channels is disposed on a surface of the needle guide body. Each needle channel can be selectively rotated into position to guide a needle into a body of a patient at a predetermined needle insertion angle. If another needle insertion angle is desired, the needle guide is rotated to place a new needle channel defining the desired needle insertion angle into position.
Claims20
An adjustable needle guide, comprising:
- a needle guide body movably mounted to a sonography device probe;
- and
- a plurality of needle channels disposed on a surface of the needle guide body,
- wherein each needle channel can be selectively moved into position to guide a needle at a predetermined needle insertion angle.
A method for inserting a needle into a body of a patient, comprising:
- sonographically imaging a portion of the body with a sonography device probe;
- rotating a needle guide attached to the probe such that a first of a plurality of needle channels defining a first needle insertion angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the probe is placed in a usable position;
- and
- inserting a needle into the patient through the selected needle channel.
A needle guide mounting system, comprising:
- a sonography device probe including:
- a connector including a first mounting surface extending along a first axis and a second mounting surface extending along a second axis, the second axis substantially orthogonal to the first axis;
- and
- an attachable needle guide including a body, the body defining:
- a needle guide path;
- a first cavity for receiving the first mounting surface of the probe connector;
- and
- a second cavity for receiving the second mounting surface of the connector.
An adjustable needle guide, comprising:
- a base portion including a needle channel defined by a plurality of lips, the base portion movably attachable to a sonography device probe;
- and
- a flexible extension extending from the base, the flexible extension including a first engagement feature for adjustably engaging a second engagement feature included on the probe, wherein engagement of the first engagement feature with the second engagement feature is adjustable so as to selectively modify a needle insertion angle defined by the needle channel of the base portion.
