Abstract
Determining stability of a catheter is described. A first signal originating from a first region of a patient is monitored and a second signal originating from a second region of the patient is monitored. First components from a recurring interval of the second signal are extracted, where the recurring interval is defined by the first signal. The first components are compared to determine a first similarity value of the first components over time. The first similarity value is compared to a threshold value to determine a stability evaluation for a source of the second signal.
Claims32
A method of determining stability of a catheter, the method comprising:
- monitoring a first signal originating from a first region of a patient;
- monitoring a second signal originating from a second region of the patient;
- extracting first components from a recurring interval of the second signal, wherein the recurring interval is defined by the first signal;
- comparing the first components to determine a first similarity value of the first components over time;
- comparing the first similarity value to a threshold value to determine a stability evaluation for a source of the second signal.
A machine-readable storage medium storing instructions which when executed by a data processing system cause the data processing system to perform a method of processing data, the method comprising:
- monitoring a first signal originating from a first region of a patient;
- monitoring a second signal originating from a second region of the patient;
- extracting first components from a recurring interval of the second signal, wherein the recurring interval is defined by the first signal;
- comparing the first components to determine a first similarity value of the first components over time;
- comparing the first similarity value to a threshold value to determine a stability evaluation for a source of the second signal.
An apparatus for use in a medical procedure to determine stability of a distal portion of a catheter, the apparatus comprising:
- a first input coupled to a first sensor to receive a first signal originating from a first region of a patient;
- a second input coupled to a second sensor disposed at the distal portion of the catheter, the second sensor configured to receive a second signal originating from a second region of the patient;
- a processing system coupled to the first input and to the second input, the processing system configured to compare samples over time of the second signal to provide an indication of a position of the distal portion of the catheter relative to the second region, and wherein the samples are compared at times specified by the first signal.
A method of determining whether to perform an operational step using a catheter, the method comprising:
- calculating, by a data processing system, an initial stability value by comparing a plurality of signals originating from a patient;
- comparing, by the data processing system, the initial stability value to a threshold value;
- and
- providing an evaluation, by the data processing system based on the comparing, of whether to perform the operational step.
A machine-readable storage medium storing instructions which when executed by a data processing system cause the data processing system to perform a method of processing data, the method comprising:
- calculating, by a data processing system, an initial stability value by comparing a plurality of signals originating from a patient;
- comparing, by the data processing system, the initial stability value to a threshold value;
- and
- providing an evaluation, by the data processing system based on the comparing, of whether to perform the operational step.
An apparatus for use in a medical procedure to determine whether to perform an operational step using a catheter, the apparatus comprising:
- a plurality of inputs coupled to a plurality of sensors to receive a plurality of signals originating from a patient;
- a processing system coupled to the plurality of inputs, the processing system configured to:
- calculate an initial stability value by comparing the plurality of signals originating from the patient;
- compare the initial stability value to a threshold value;
- and
- provide an evaluation based on the comparing of whether to perform the operational step.
