Abstract
The removal of fluoroalkanes from fluoroalkane-containing hydrocarbon streams, preferably C3 to C5 hydrocarbon streams. The fluoroalkane-containing hydrocarbon stream is contacted with an adsorbent containing a strong acid function, preferably a silica gel or a strong cation ion-exchange resin having sulfonic acid functionality.
Claims21
A process for removing fluoroalkanes from a fluoroalkane-containing hydrocarbon stream comprised of C2 to C10 hydrocarbons and from about 0.05 to about 1 wt. % C3 to C5 fluoroalkanes, which process comprises contacting said fluoroalkane-containing hydrocarbon stream with an adsorbent having strong acid functionality at a temperature from about −40° C. to about 60° C.
A process for removing fluoroalkanes from a fluoroalkane-containing hydrocarbon stream comprised of C3 to C5 hydrocarbons and containing from about 0.01 to about 0.5 wt. % C3 to C5 fluoroalkanes, which process comprises contacting said fluoroalkane-containing hydrocarbon stream with an adsorbent having strong acid functionality at a temperature from about −20° C. to about 40° C.
