Abstract
Disclosed is a process for the preparation of fluorine-containing olefins comprising contacting a chlorofluoroalkene with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst at a temperature sufficient to cause replacement of the chlorine substituents of the chlorofluoroalkene with hydrogen to produce a fluorine-containing olefin, wherein said catalyst is a composition comprising chromium, nickel and optionally an alkali metal selected from potassium and cesium. Also disclosed are catalyst compositions for the hydrodechlorination of chlorofluoroalkenes comprising copper, nickel, and an alkali metal selected from potassium and cesium, and methods of making such catalysts.
Claims15
A process for the preparation of fluorine-containing olefins, comprising contacting a chlorofluoroalkene of the formula RfCCl═CClRf wherein each Rf is a perfluoroalkyl group independently selected from the group consisting of CF3, C2F5, n-C3F7, i-C3F7, n-C4F9, i-C4F9 and t-C4F9, with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst at a temperature sufficient to cause replacement of the chlorine substituents of the chlorofluoroalkene with hydrogen to produce a fluorine-containing olefin of the formula E- or Z—R1CH═CHR2, wherein each of R1 and R2 are, perfluoroalkyl groups independently selected from the group consisting of CF3, C2F5, n-C3F7, i-C3F7, n-C4F9, i-C4F9 and t-C4F9, wherein said catalyst is a composition comprising chromium and nickel.
A process for the preparation of fluorine-containing alkynes, comprising contacting a chlorofluoroalkene of the formula RfCCl═CClRf wherein each Rf is a perfluoroalkyl group independently selected from the group consisting of CF3, C2F5, n-C3F7, i-C3F7, n-C4F9, i-C4F9 and t-C4F9 with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst at a temperature sufficient to cause elimination of the chlorine substituents of the chlorofluoroalkene to produce a fluorine-containing alkyne of the formula R1CH≡CHR2, wherein each of R1 and R2 are, perfluoroalkyl groups independently selected from the group consisting of CF3, C2F5, n-C3F7, i-C3F7, n-C4F9, i-C4F9 and t-C4F9, wherein said catalyst is a composition comprising copper and nickel.
