Abstract
Polyfluorinated carboxylic acids and their salts containing an ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene moiety, which are useful as surfactants in a process for the dispersion polymerization of fluorinated monomer in an aqueous polymerization medium.

A compound of Formula (I)
- RfCH2CH2CF2CF2)x(CH2CH2CF2)yC(O)OM (I)
- wherein Rf is a linear or branched perfluoroalkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, x is 1 to 3, y is 0 or 1, and M is H, NH4, Li, Na, K, or linear, branched or cyclic alkyl containing 1-8 carbon atoms;
- with the proviso that the sum of x and y is 2 or greater.
A compound of Formula (II)
- Rf(CH2CH2CF2CF2)xC(O)OM (II)
- wherein Rf is a linear or branched perfluoroalkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, x is 2 or 3, and M is H, NH4, Li, Na, K, or linear, branched or cyclic alkyl containing 1-8 carbon atoms.
