Adjustable cartridge assembly for a workpiece-holding master jaw device

An adjustable workpiece holding chuck, the chuck comprising:

• a cylindrical chuck body having at least one jaw recess in a frontward facing surface;
• at least one operating jaw mounted to one of the at least one jaw recess;
• and
• at least one master jaw mountable relative to the at least one operating jaw;
• wherein one of the at least one operating jaw and the at least one master jaw includes at least one bearing brace;
• wherein the other of the at least one operating jaw and the at least one master jaw includes an adjustable cartridge assembly mounted thereto;
• and
• wherein said adjustable cartridge assembly is mounted to the bearing brace and comprises:
• an adjustable screw that is releasably, rotatably mounted to the at least one bearing brace;
• and
• a cartridge insert having a cartridge opening mounted to the adjustable screw.

A method for attaching an master jaw to a master jaw of a chuck, the method comprising:

• mounting an adjustable cartridge assembly to a recess formed in the master jaw, wherein the adjustable cartridge assembly includes:
• a cartridge insert having a full-diameter cartridge opening;
• and
• an adjustable screw rotatably mounted in the cartridge opening;
• and
• attaching the adjustable screw to at least one bearing brace positioned on the master jaw.
