Abstract
Methods, including service methods, articles of manufacture, systems, articles and programmable devices are provided for providing digital media content as a function of embedded environmental impact data. When a digital multimedia item is received, an embedded environmental impact value is decoded and the item is utilized as a function of the decoded embedded environmental impact value. Some methods further comprise accounting for amounts and types of energy used in creating the item to calculate an environmental impact value for the item, and the calculated environmental impact value embedded within digital data of the item.
Claims24
A method for providing digital media content as a function of embedded environmental impact data, comprising:
- providing a programmable device configured by a logic component;
- wherein the programmable device is configured to:
- receive a digital multimedia item with an embedded environmental impact value;
- decode the received embedded environmental impact value;
- and
- utilize the item as a function of the decoding the embedded environmental impact value.
A method for utilizing digital media as a function of embedded environmental impact data, comprising:
- producing computer executable program code;
- storing the code on a computer readable medium;
- and
- providing the program code to be deployed and executed on a computer system, the program code comprising instructions which, when executed on the computer system, cause the computer system to:
- receive a digital multimedia item with an embedded item environmental impact value;
- decode the received item embedded environmental impact value;
- and
- utilize the item as a function of decoding the embedded environmental impact value.
A programmable device comprising:
- a processing means;
- a memory in communication with the processing means comprising a logic component;
- and
- a network interface in communication with the processing means and the memory;
- wherein the processing means is configured to:
- receive a digital multimedia item having an embedded item environmental impact value;
- decode the received item embedded environmental impact value;
- and
- utilize the item as a function of decoding the embedded environmental impact value;
- wherein the item embedded environmental impact value is indicative of at least one of:
- an amount of energy used in the creating of the item;
- a type of energy used in the creating of the item;
- an amount of energy used to physically deliver the item to a user;
- and
- an amount of energy used to recycle or dispose of the item.
