Liquid crystal display panel having integrated pressure sending units

A liquid crystal display panel comprising:

• a plurality of pixel units each comprising a liquid crystal capacitor formed by a respective pixel electrode and a respective first portion of a common electrode with a liquid crystal material interposed therebetween to define a dielectric of the liquid crystal capacitor;
• a pressure sensing unit formed between two neighboring ones of the pixel units, the pressure sensing unit comprising:
• a sensing electrode;
• and
• an insulating layer formed under the sensing electrode, the insulating layer also extending under the respective pixel electrodes of the at least two neighboring pixel units,
• wherein the sensing electrode connects to a first capacitor plate of a variable capacitor whose capacitance is changed by application of pressure to a counterfacing second capacitor plate defined by a second portion of the common electrode, and where the variable capacitor has the liquid crystal material and the insulating layer interposed as a dielectric material between the first and second capacitor plates, and where the sensing electrode generates a pressure detection signal in response to a selective control voltage applied to a voltage splitter circuit formed by the variable capacitor and by a reference capacitor.

A touch sensitive liquid crystal display panel comprising:

• a plurality of subpixel units each comprising a liquid crystal capacitor having a pixel electrode and a counterfacing first portion of a common electrode of the display as two terminals with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween;
• a touch sensing unit integrally formed between two neighboring subpixel units and comprising a variable capacitor having as one capacitor plate thereof, a sensing electrode;
• a first alignment layer formed on the pixel electrode and the sensing electrode;
• an insulating layer formed on the common electrode;
• and
• a second alignment layer formed on the insulating layer.

A touch sensitive liquid crystal display panel comprising:

• a plurality of subpixel units;
• a touch sensing unit generating a sensing data signal by an external contact;
• a comparison signal generator generating a comparison data signal regardless of the external contact;
• and
• a contact determining unit comparing the sensing data signal and the comparison data signal to determine existence of contact.
