Abstract
An intrinsically safe energy limited circuit for space-restricted applications includes a fuse and resistor in series with a protected circuit or component wherein the fuse dissipates most of the power when the protected circuit or component is short circuited.
Claims13
An intrinsically safe energy limited circuit, comprising:
- a source terminal for connecting to a voltage source;
- a return terminal for connecting to a voltage source;
- at least one branch circuit having a protected circuit component connected between the source and return terminals;
- and
- a fuse and resistor forming a series combination and connected in each branch circuit in series with the protected circuit component of the branch circuit;
- wherein substantially all of the dissipation of power in the circuit branch caused by a short-circuited protected circuit component is shared between the fuse and the resistor in the branch circuit.
